Human/nature

I've seen one episode of Stein's Gate and I am all over this business. All I know aside from episode 1 is that according to internet people they "do time travel right," so I'm kind of all over that by default, but so far it's winning me over on other levels as well. Dis mad scientist chunibyo.

I just re-read that last sentence. Is English dead? Sheeeiiit.

The week started off poorly when I spilled the contents of my wallet all over the bus and then banged my head trying to pick them up (picture of feminine grace right here, comrade).
The week continued poorly when the replacement battery I ordered did not, in fact, fix my laptop. Nooooo mooooore draaaawwwing tiiiiiime ;_____; No way to get my files right now either. Hopefully I can afford to get it looked at/fixed soon, but who knoooowwwws. D:  Bwaaaaaauuuuuuhhhhhghhh

I'm reading a fantastic book that is also very depressing because of reality. I'm lucky. I have folks in my life who will help me out if I'm in a pinch -- but I'm a grown woman who wants to pull her own fucking weight, and being poor's just being under a fucking millstone; it just grinds you into dust some days. I love my job, but man... they cut what few medical benefits I had, I still make under $10/hr after seven years and many of my shifts are 4-6 hours long (plus about one hour each way biking and/or bus time, since I can't afford to replace my car). I've really got no right to complain, because I am lucky -- but I'm not perfect either, and I'm just so sick and tired and beaten down lately, with just so much...shit running through my head all the damn time. Would a second job really help that much if I had to figure in scheduling/transport? Should I go back to school? For how long? For what? Why are my emotions broken? What even do? Etc.

I almost don't want to post this because I feel like I've been a huuuuuge buzz-kill lately, for which I apologize.

Here are some nice things stolen from the internet to offset the pile of worries above:

We've all got troubles, but the world is still a lovely place overall and we're lucky to be in it.

A slumpy minipost

Took a bit for the PC to start up tonight ( D: ) The good news there is my (AMAZING) friend's gent (also amazing!) said he'd check it out for me, so we'll see how that goes (read: how...expensive power supplies are?! Again, cross your fingers that's all it is)

Found this randomly, and it kinda made my day:

Thank you, random WoW person from two years ago, for your kind words. Hugtor misses you too.

Been listening to Harmontown lately. Been spinning my wheels a bit since my primary art-worky stuff's down and everything's...what it is? Man, I should have filled out some applications today. I'm in a slump, and I feel like that bodes poorly for the winter months ahead, but I also hope that's just the slump talking. SLUMP, BEGONE. BEGONE, YE SLUMP.

Limbo Guitar

Sorry posts have been scarce; I've had a lot of bad luck lately. For one thing, my drawing laptop is down, so I have no way to work and no way to retrieve current work -- which sucks, because I just set up a redbubble account and was working on some slick t-shirts/stickers/whatnot :c Now they are gooonnnne(?...I ordered a replacement battery, so cross your fingers that's the only problem? I cannot stress enough how much this sucks).
My current computer (the desktop pc) is having a ton of issues as well, in ways that seem to indicate the power supply. So that sucks too -- I missed stream night this last weekend because of it, and I'm basically just crossing my fingers every time I try to start it up. SO! Those things. :/
There are...many other unpleasant worries going on that I shan't trouble you with, because in the larger/non-subjective scheme of things in this crazy world they're dull and trivial...but goddamn they're (subjectively) stressful, and they suck and I am tired and old and just kinda fail at all the things, allllll the tiiiiiime. Damn, I'm a buzzkill today. Sorry, blog... reader people, whoever you are. I promise I'll go try to remedy this bout of lameness through the wholesome aid of caffeine and...just...looking at pictures of baby animals or something.

You go slowly // (Surely time will come to an end soon)

Well, I'm splitsville again, and it sucks so much ass. That's all I'll get into here, aside from saying that I'm a soggy mess and just resigning myself at this point to dying surrounded by cats and empty wine boxes.
Here's a bunch of crap I've been accumulating on my desktop, because ranting about anime or whatever > stupid emotions.

People buy fanfiction for their children when they don't give a fuck. They just see "Minecraft" and go "hey, that's the thing my kid likes -- maybe pandering to a superficial understanding of their interests will make up for neglecting to attempt to understand or share those interests." I am telling you that these are real, purchasable things and there is no god.

Somehow I don't think Wells Fargo knows what it's getting into here:

We're all fools, so let's all dance, baby.

Let's take a moment here to contemplate the fascinating creature that is Sonokawa Momoka

Sooooo... I'm still torn on Bodacious Space Pirates. It's... it's not a bad show, by any means -- but it feels pretty predictable in some ways? I'm still definitely going to finish it, but I guess it just doesn't quite make it to the Space Dandy/Sabagebu tier... Might be due to Marika's ultra-genki plot armor, and I'm not really down with her pet princesses, because whythefuck. ALTHOUGH! I am totally down with it anytime they want to throw me a curve ball like the following:

YEEEAH JENNY SENPAI

This is the part where my brain goes "If they go yuri with the plot now,
THEN MAYBE THERE'S HOPE FOR MARIKA AND CHIAKI-CHAN OMG"*

Mina onaji ningen da // 皆 同じ 人間だ

So Viva Namida has been stuck in my head for like 4 days straight. But -- what's this?! 6+ hours of Cowboy Bebop? Don't mind if I do, youtube! Don't miiiiind if I do.

Can your friends combine their powers to become an impromptu record player? Can they play upon that impromptu record player an album that opens a gateway to eternal nothingness, consuming planets and time in its wake? Why haven't you watched Space Dandy yet? We may never know the answers to these beautiful mysteries.

Why?

Hey does your room turn into a magical goddamn fairyland at night? Because it should.

(No, it will never be this clean again)

Hey it is time for things about books.

* * * * *
"Reality is a funny thing. There are no defenses against it except madness."

So my friend loaned me this book, and it was fantastic! It's hard to track down, apparently -- she mentioned she'd tried to dig up more information on the author and hadn't had any luck, so I gave it a shot and I struck out too (but I'm really curious now, because it's a great read). There's a tiny blurb at the end of the book, but it's just a fucking tease:
"David W. Elliott was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1939. By the age of thirteen he had lived with some fifteen different families. At that time he decided to run away from the first month of the tenth grade and the fifteenth family to see the world. He did.
Mr. Elliott now lives in a small town in New York State about fifty miles north of New York City."
If you (dear whoever-reads-this) can dig up more, then: +1 internets unto thee.

"They should put all the nuts in the world in front of a firing squad, he says.
But who would be left to pull the triggers, I say."
* * * * *

A handsome gent loaned me The Children's Crusade (A Duty-Dance With Death) which was ALSO FANTASTIC.

* * *
          Under morphine, Billy had a dream of giraffes in a garden. The giraffes were following gravel paths, were pausing to munch sugar pears from treetops. Billy was a giraffe, too. He ate a pear. It was a hard one. It fought back against his grinding teeth. It snapped in juicy protest.
          The giraffes accepted Billy as one of their own, as a harmless creature as preposterously specialized as themselves. Two approached him from opposite sides, leaned against him. They had long, muscular upper lips which they could shape like the bells of bugles. They kissed him with these. They were female giraffes--cream and lemon yellow. They had horns like doorknobs. The knobs were covered with velvet.
          Why?
. . .

          Billy Pilgrim opened his eyes in the hospital in Vermont, did not know where he was. Watching him was his son Robert. Robert was wearing the uniform of the famous Green Berets. Robert's hair was short, was wheat-colored bristles. Robert was clean and neat. He was decorated with a Purple Heart and a Silver Star and a Bronze Star with two clusters.
          This was a boy who had flunked out of high school, who had been an alcoholic at sixteen, who had run with a rotten bunch of kids, who had been arrested for tipping over hundreds of tombstones in a Catholic cemetery one time. He was all straightened out now. His posture was wonderful and his shoes were shined and his trousers were pressed, and he was a leader of men.
          "Dad--?"
          Billy Pilgrim closed his eyes again.

. . .

          Robert Kennedy, whose summer home is eight miles from the home I live in all year round, was shot two nights ago. He died last night. So it goes.
          Martin Luther King was shot a month ago. He died, too. So it goes.
          And every day my Government gives me a count of corpses created by military science in Vietnam. So it goes.
          My father died many years ago now--of natural causes. So it goes. He was a sweet man. He was a gun nut, too. He left me his guns. They rust.
* * *
* * * * *

Finally, I picked up The Rapture of the Nerds after foolishly leaving the first Cory Doctorow book I purchased at a bar before I'd finished it (SILLY). RotN is co-authored by one Charles Stross, an author I'm similarly unfamiliar with -- though one of his books caught my eye awhile back because, really, how can you just mosey on by when somebody straight-up titles a book Rule 34? How do you do that

These very fine gents with their hive-minds and gender-swapping and robo-moms and swarms of fucking ants and TOTALLY DESERVED jabs at Comic Sans and stretchy singularity time. Also look at these things!

* * *
          History repeats itself: first as tragedy, then as farce.
. . .
          A dream. Of course it was all a dream. Except she's standing in the middle of an infinite white plain, beneath a sky the color of a high-def video monitor sucking signal from a dead channel (saturated electric blue), and the plain is featureless in all directions save for a black hexagonal mesh grid--a tabletop strategy game for retarded superbeings.
. . .
Hyperspace bypasses, Vogon poetry, the heat death of the universe: none of these things feature in the extraordinary situation now pertaining to the end of the world as Huw knows it.

Dohohohoho, I see what you've done here you delightful scoundrels. You alright, Mssrs. Cory Doctorow & Charles Stross. You alright.

* * * * *
Pretty EXCELLENT
* * * * *

Ok, that's all for now (work tomorrow and such). I hope y'all having yourselves a lovely & a safe time
drifting through dat spacetime.

*Indecipherable noises*

Hello there. There have been a lot of good and not-so-good things going down recently, but one of those not-so-good things is the headache I have right now, so I'm going to skip all the goings-down and jump right into anime, because it's mostly pictures.

One of THE MANY reasons to watch Survival Game Club is Momoka's mom.

And, of course: survival games.

Do you ever have a day where you wake up and just want to break rainbows

I have more things to post, but my head is imploding, I think. IOU a book post, and many, many other things, comics among them.

Scribbles / Reunionary / Shapes

Whoa. What a week/weekend O_O
So first off, I had a lovely night out at the Flicks/downtown last week, which unfortunately ended with a bike wreck and the loss of my wallet. The bike wreck wasn't too bad, thankfully -- I was wearing my helmet, but I only scraped up my arm and hip a bit (although I'm still pretty bruised & sore). The wallet had a few sentimental things in t, so that sucked to lose -- but I managed to get most of the important cards/such replaced before we went out of town this weekend.

Friday we headed to the northern wilds of our fair state for family reunion shenanigans, which were delightful. It was really good to see that (my Mom's) side of the family -- my aunt Kathy(Cathy? Damn >_<) helped me break some rules, we played at a water park with the kids, drank things in hot tubs, had some awesome family sing alongs, rode a giant gondola (well, I passed on the gondola)... just all kinds of good times. I wish we could have stayed a few more days in between all the driving -- and I still wish I'd gotten to catch up with more people, but there were a lot of folks to talk to as well as a lot going on, so it can't be helped, I suppose.

Been kind of bummed out since we got back -- at first I was attributing it to social overload, but I had some time to hang out on my own yesterday & I'm still dragging a bit. I got a little drawing done, but the house is a mess and I just keep looking at it, getting fed up, and jumping back into the book I'm reading -- as though ignoring it will somehow help. Good book, though, to be fair.
Today I had a very nice lunch, followed by AWESOME hangouts, mellowed by a bit of disappointment later -- all different situations, but the day's been kind of a strange wave overall -- and in that weird introspective kinda way, it's currently being brought up a bit by the storm outside; daaaaaaaaaaaamn! It's coming down out there. O____O

Hey, I have a million things for you, as uuuuuuusual...but a lot of them are on the other computer, SO! You get off light for now.

daaaaaaaaaaaamn

Episode 8 of Space Dandy: AUGH WHY

HEY SPOILERS NIGHTVALE WAS AMAAAAZING. I learned I could probably handle a few centipedes. I heard FANTASTIC music. I got to be part of a crowd full of amazing people and wonderfulness. There was barhopping afterward, and reconnecting with old friends, and great conversation -- the night was a definite success.
The next day was a ball of madness, but today has been a success as well. Had some lovely folks over for beer and cupcakes and painting, and it was the delightfullest.
