Fuzzy logic // BEARS BEARS BEARS // We got everything but time

Squenpai ~♥

Do you know what is amazing even though it will destroy you? Well, life itself, I guess -- but also kimchi. Do you know what is more amazing than kimchi? Homemade kimchi.

Have I mentioned recently that you should be incredibly jelly of me for knowing my BFF, a powerful sorceress? Have I mentioned that she is incredibly beautiful and hilarious and I kind of worship her? AND she makes amazing kimchi? Well, now you know those things.

~ GLORY ~

Hey did you know that the aforementioned Sorceress and her beau, two amazing fucking people, are rocking the wedlock-ing in like a month well folks it is true and did you also know that the celebration of this brave and beautiful time-honored pledge often entails the interaction of widely varied social circles and hey do you know what is good to have for social interaction it is clothing and guess who went to the thrift store TIME FOR DRESS CHAT

Potential loots!

The colors were nice but the straps felt too...open. It might have been alright with a cardigan, but I couldn't really find one which worked with the dress -- this was the closest I got to one I liked. Pass.

So comfy! And springy! I got this one and I think I'm keeping it just for funsies

These two (above and below) were the real toss-up...They were almost the reverse of each other, but the fit on the lighter one was a little tight (and the fabric is thinner, it might need a petticoat, etc) so I'm going with the darker one -- and the shoes on the left, which were an amazing find.

Look at this shit. I'm not even a shoe person, but look at these fucking shoes.

It's hard to tell in these pictures, but the dress is actually... like a chocolate brown(?) with kind of cream accents (the lighter one was cream with chocolate brown polka dots), and the shoes are an almost perfect match. Also some Bruce Lee movies(!!!!!!!) because um duh.

¡¡¡ Shoes: $4.99 Dress: $5.99 !!!
Martial Arts Masters DVD (9 Movies!): $2.99
Being a Wizard: Fucking priceless

Also, I got this sweater dress thing because it is amazing.

Aww, thanks Mr. Be-HEY

*shakes fist* Yooooouuu!

"Hey, what about hilariously ugly stuff you rejected at the thrift store?" I'm glad you asked!

The above one...had a hood on the back? And like...back pockets and these weird rivet stud things and...just...I don't know. Just look at that thing. Why? Why.
The one below just looks like the bad parts of the 70s threw up on a sweater.

I guess that leopard print thing next to it doesn't help any. There were many other ridiculous things, too -- I could have assembled at least six different complete outfits composed entirely of denim (ok, ok, maybe not the socks/underwear, but everything else). You know when you see your fourth denim overall dress that it's probably time to go.

The loneliness is loud tonight -- skin-tight (but you could snuff it like a pilot light)

#dumb

Today was real full-of-things on not a lot of sleep (maybe 4 hours -- that unfortunate mix of tossing for hours and then waking up early for more of the same).
Work was slowwwww. I met up with a new friend who seems really cool. I kicked it with my brother. I ate delicious foods and burned my mouth off with kimchi. Then I was dumb with the texting and just...threw my heart against a brick wall for awhile I guess. I'm going to breakfast with my dad tomorrow. I'm seeing a qt on Friday, and a movie next week, and I have pictures to draw, things to paint, airbrush skills to learn, comic books to read, and emails to write.

I don't...really know how to feel about anything right now. I feel like I should just keep moving but I also feel like throwing up. This is all dumb.

Wholehearted Sincerity

So I found a copy of Yukio Mishima's movie Patriotism (or The Rite of Love and Death) at work recently. I had previously checked out The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea but couldn't get into it... and to be honest, I don't know if I'd give that one another shot, but I do feel like I understand where Mishima was coming from (a little) better(?) after reading up on him a little more.

He was born in 1925, and sort of snatched away from his family by his weirdly overbearing/violent/high society grandma for awhile -- and it sounds like his dad was pretty abusive too. He barely dodged the draft and sort of came into his own in the post-war lit scene.
"Mishima actually denounced Emperor Hirohito for renouncing his claim of divinity after World War II, arguing that millions of Japanese had died in the war for their "living god" Emperor, and that the Showa Emperor's renouncing his divinity meant that all those deaths were in vain." (Wikipedia)
He may have been gay or (bisexual), but it also sounds like his widow tried to shut a lot of those rumors down, so: who knows? It seems he was very strongly fixated on death, and kind of...both the eroticism of and idealization of it -- he apparently circled around suicide a LOT before committing it himself; in 1970 he tried to inspire a coup and then committed seppuku when it failed, an eerie parallel to the movie which he wrote and starred in?! Yep! It's all pretty wild.

Some stuff about this movie!
  • The music (the only sound in the film -- no dialogue) is actually kind of random, since they synced it to the end of the film and then just matched up the length. From the Mishima's comments in the liner notes: "I made no attempt to plot the soundtrack, preferring to leave it entirely to chance. The intended effect was that of an avant-garde 'happening.' " I just thought that was cool.
  • They shot it in like two days?!
  • Some people fainted when they saw it because this was some intense shit for the 60s okay

This movie's very visually striking; are you ready for like a million pictures?!

Mixed Media // Politicians can eat an important dick

Hey. Hi. Hello.

Tru dat. Let us bookpost.

Fig. 01a. -- The Tower (XVI)

This is FANTASTIC and I will be throwing monies at it:

Fig. 02a. -- Me

I hear tell it started as a webcomic, and I will probably be checking that biz out -- but regardless, I will be throwing the monies and I encourage you to do so as well, post haste.

This was really interesting -- it's ostensibly about a death at a Buddhist retreat but it kind of takes on America's fascination with "eastern mysticism," and just...dude, all kinds of stuff, ok. You got yourself some crazy pseudo-Tibetan-splitoff-cult true crime story going, you got some geology and history of Arizona, some Tibetan history, some stuff about violent Buddhist schisms, this thing called "lung" I'd never heard of? Madame Blavatsky? Geronimo? Some ritual stabbing? Many thiiiiiings.

I thought this was really cool, even though it was technically a quote within the book:

Twenty-seven million years ago a small cone of congealed magma built up on a weak point in the earth's crust and stuck in the ground like a cork just two miles south of the valley that Diamond Mountain now occupies. Countless centuries of continental movements and subterranean lava flows pushed upward against the plug until the pressure was released in an explosion of volcanic ash and magma a thousand times more powerful than the eruption at Mount St. Helens. The hot cloud darkened the globe and robbed plants in faraway Indonesia and Germany of sunlight and caused chaos in global weather patterns for decades. For Southeast Arizona, this might as well have been the moment of creation.
The cataclysm erased any trace of what came before it. The mountain's once-mighty peak collapsed in an instant into a twelve-mile-wide volcanic crater that now descends almost a mile into the earth at its deepest point. Ash that settled outside of ground zero left behind a Mars-like landscape. Over the following eons ice, wind, and excoriating sun sculpted the softer minerals away and left behind improbable rock shapes. Spires of hardened magma that resemble carefully stacked pebbles, called hoodoos, can soar hundreds of feet into the air. At the heart of the caldera, their trunklike pinnacles form a forest of rock pillars.

This happened?!

How indeed

"You a fan of the pikachu?" "Uhh..."

"I'm gonna say hiii to the guyyy with the kniiiife! Hi!"

My brain tried to destroy me again last night/this morning with its migraine powers, but I valiantly fought it with pills and hydration -- and I'll probably be crashing early tonight, too. Other things are also dumb and I am just... so very tired of thinking about everything. Or anything. I hope I can actually fucking sleep tonight. Alright, I'm done. Look at this damn wallaby while I play us out with hip-hop and xylophones.

Just another future song // Late post / Loss post

I started pulling this post together (well) over a week ago and it kind of got away from me. Actually, I guess it was over two weeks ago, because it was right after David Bowie passed away and I was holding off because I wanted to write some stuff about how his challenging of gender norms affected me as a young little thing growing up in Idaho. Maybe I'll write that sometime, but hopefully that gives you an idea of how crazy things have been.

I'm just going to post this as it's been existing in post-limbo -- with this small addendum:

About a week ago we lost this little guy to a car on a busy street. The loss is something else I'm endeavoring to write about in more detail, but for now I'll just say that during that week back in October when everything went sideways for me, this guy was my special little buddy. He seemed to know something was up and would come snuggle me and help pull me out of freak-outs when I was on my own.

On top of that, he was just such a character, this guy. I'll write more sometime, but this is still kind of a rough topic so I hope the pictures will do for now.

RIP, Bast/Munchkin/Little Man/Cutie McBeantoes: Prince Among Cats.
